CAVITATION TREATMENT GUIDE

Cavitation can it really destroy and remove your fat?

Ultrasonic Cavitation is here

Want to turbocharge your bikini body? , Yeah you do

Or maybe you’re trying to shift those final lbs from your ‘baby won’t stop eating’ belly?!

Cavitation now offers you a path to a trim, taut and toned tummy. There’s no pain, no strife, no recover, no knife, and all for a fraction of the cost and trauma associated with more invasive and extreme in-patient procedures – like liposuction.

With little time and little fuss, you could find yourself dancing back into that favourite LBD, full of confidence and sparkle but certainly not full of fat.

Is it safe?

Cavitation is a clinically proven, safe, simple, and relatively cheap non-invasive treatment which will be completed in around an hour, start to finish, and will leave you with centimetres off your waist, thighs, belly, arms, flanks (love handles) or bum. The results offer minimal side effects and complications, and you can be back at work as soon as you are dressed and out the door. It that regard, it must be considered a safe treatment. Now, I know your next question… What the heck is cavitation?

Where has Cavitation been all my life?

For those of you who have never heard the term before, let me explain. If you think Cavitation sounds more like something to do with industrial engineering, rather than something to do with health and beauty, then you are half right. Although it doesn’t conjure up the most glamorous or sensuous of experiences, cavitation treatment is based on a phenomenon first experienced in the world of physics and is a term which has mostly been used in an engineering context. It manifests itself when liquid rapidly changes pressure, causing extreme energy transfer which can then cause disruption.

Medical experts saw this phenomenon and decided to use it for good. Cavitation is made use of in several areas of medicine, including in the treatment of some cancers, in the destruction of kidney stones, and has been used to open the blood-brain barrier for better uptake of neurological drugs in the brain.

Don’t be confused by the name

Part of the lack of knowledge around Cavitation is the lack of clarity regarding the terms used for this treatment. Cavitation can also be known as Ultrasonic Cavitation and Ultrasonic Lipolysis. It can be confusing and difficult to know what you are talking about. There are some treatments which can appear similar in description but are totally different in practice.

Some treatment centres will refer to an ultrasonic liposuction or laser lipolysis (also known as tumescent liposuction), these are not the same. They are invasive, require general surgery, anaesthesia and they will involve cutting you open and injecting you with a treatment substance before ultrasound occurs. These procedures are not without risk or complications and should in now way be confused with non-invasive cavitation.

Cavitation is a safe, simple, and easy treatment to help shift those stubborn fat deposits that sit just where you don’t want them to.

Here’s the science bit - Cavitation = Ultrasound + Bubbles = Less fat cells

Did you gloss over at school when you heard the terms oscillation, frequency, or hertz? Or maybe the phrase ‘how to calculate sound wavelengths,’ brought you out in a cold sweat, I know it did for me! But something tells me you might just pay a little more attention to the laws of physics, when you hear what they can do for your physique.

From the factory to your fat – a vibrating journey

The discovery of the phenomenon of cavitation was made in industrial environments where heavy, repetitive machinery exert large forces on the materials around them. It is most often a destructive and detrimental behaviour which causes damage to machine parts, and tools, especially those made of metal.

Cavitation is the process which occurs when high and low frequency pressure changes occur in liquids, in rapid succession. In machinery this can be created by powerful tools which are in constant movement causing vibrations in liquids around them – like oil or water. In our treatment, we use an ultrasonic device to create this environment.

Cavitation in action – What is happening?

When rapid oscillation of sonic pressure is applied to a liquid at the correct frequency and resonance, two things occur.

At low frequency we see the formation of small cavities filled with vapour or gas. Bubbles begin to form - small in size, but large in quantity. A good example is when you whisk a thick oil like olive oil very quickly - you will see lots of small bubbles forming around the whisk head.

At high frequency, we see these bubbles or ‘cavities’ which have been created within the liquid, start to collapse. When they do so, they create a very small but very powerful localised resonance, or shock wave in the area close to the bubble. It doesn’t spread very far but can be destructive.

Alternating this low- and high-pressure wave cycle leads to cyclical stress. This is amplified when you think of this small shock wave happening to many cavities in close proximity and at the same time. This can cause enough energy transfer to seriously damage materials which are located close enough to the site of these shock waves.

Cavitation in other walks of life

In industrial terms, we see this in propellers and hydraulic pumps, for example, where their constant movement through water causes the energy created through cavitation to damage the metal surface – holes and gouges can develop over time. In nature a similar example is something like a tsunami – the vibrations caused when the earth moves, during an earthquake, cause a shock wave to form in the sea surround this area. With enough shock waves of a close and similar nature a resonance occurs, and the sea can be disrupted from its natural tidal movement (normally caused by the moons gravitational pull on the earth!).

Fat Freezing Treatment

Cavitation in humans explained

If we apply this behaviour to our body through the use of Ultrasound, then the result is the same.

The ultrasound creates alternating low and high frequency ultrasonic waves which cause cavitation of the area just below our skin – which mostly contains subcutaneous fat or ‘adipose’ cells. This rapid oscillation creates enough resonance and shock to damage the walls of the adipose cells. Strong hydrodynamic shear forces occur, resulting in cell wall collapse and the outflow of the cell contents, in our case - FAT!

Although this sounds potentially dangerous, doctors have spent a long time focusing the frequency of the ultrasound devices to ensure that the frequencies used only cause cavitation close to the site of the device applicator or head and only affect our fat cells.

As the cell ruptures, the fat has nowhere to go. As we see with similar treatments, such as fat freezing, the lymphatic system naturally removes this cell ‘waste’ from our bodies, including the fat deposits, in the same manner as all dead cells. We excrete any naturally occurring cell waste, simply and harmlessly over the course of the next few days and weeks.

The treatment – the low down

• You must disclose any medical conditions you have.

• You might be advised to avoid NSAID’s – such as ibuprofen, in the preceding 2 weeks.

• In order to get the best out of your treatment you will also be advised to drink plenty of water, both before and after treatment. Excellent hydration will ensure that the lymphatic system is functioning as optimally as possible and will make cell waste (fat) removal more effective

• The targeted skin will need to be exposed

• Area will be sterilised with medical alcohol

• Conductive gel will be applied to the treatment zone, this is clear and often cold, so be prepared!

• The ultrasound device will then be rubbed over the surface area for between 30-60 minutes. You might feel a warm sensation as it does heat up the skin as the displacement occurs. There will be a gentle buzzing sound from the device.

Cavitation Treatment

What about side-effects?

• Side effects are minimal – some redness, slightly bruising or soreness and potential headache

• Most find the treatment relaxing and can go straight be to normal life immediately after.

How many treatments?

This one is kind of up to you. About 80% of people experience an immediate reduction of fat, and another 18% see an effect within 7-10 days. This is about expected, as it can take a while for the lymphatic system to eliminate all cell waste. Overall it might take several weeks to see your most impressive fat loss and improved shaping. Cavitation can be repeated many times, due to its non-invasive nature with zero recovery time. Between 6-12 treatment cycles are usually suggested.

Is Cavitation suitable for me?

Cavitation is suitable for anyone who wants to target subcutaneous fat removal on specific areas of their body – maybe their inner or outer thighs, their belly, love handles or bum. They should already be in relatively good shape but need help to remove stubborn fat in areas which they find historically difficult for fat loss to occur naturally.

It is not suitable for people who want to remove large volumes of deep-lying visceral fat – that is the fat which forms in large solid mass across the abdomen. This fat is hard to access, as it surrounds our vital organs and blood vessels, and the ultrasound waves will not penetrate to this level in the body.

How long does it last?

As with all other non-invasive treatments that use a similar technique to damage and destroy our fat cells, this only affects and removes a certain percentage of our local fat cells and does not prevent new fat cells from naturally occurring, or from other existing fat cells from growing larger from diet or other environmental factors.

Cavitation is more suited to sculpting and trimming of fat from problem areas of people who are already in shape and healthy. You should maintain a good healthy diet and active lifestyle to maximise your cavitation results.

For those who want to remove visceral fat, liposuction is the treatment more suited to this.

For those who want to remove visceral fat, liposuction is the treatment more suited to this.

What should I expect?

Cavitation works by targeting specific areas of excess subcutaneous fat. For this reason it is great for toning and shaping of the body. You will not notice a massive weight loss – Cavitation results will be seen through the tape measure and from cm or inches lost in the treatment areas.

Is it safe?

Generally Cavitation is safe, but there are some contraindications for use.

You should not have cavitation treatment if you are or have any of the below:

• pregnant

• breastfeeding

• pacemaker

• cardiac/vascular disease or any kind of serious illness

• epilepsy

• problems with blood flow

• metal prosthetics

• diabetes suffers should also consult your GP for advice beforehand

Who does Cavitation near me?

Cavitation has been around a while and uses safe, simple, and well-established technology, even so it is still relatively unfamiliar procedure in the general populace. For specialist treatment centres it has been offered very successfully for a while and patients return again and again for the proven results. Cavitation has widespread availability in London and across the country, so give us a buzz and we’ll get your fat cells buzzing off before you know it!
